NPCI Launches AI-Driven 'UPI Help' for Seamless Digital Payment Support and Query Resolution: A Comprehensive Overview

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched 'UPI Help,' an AI-powered assistant designed to provide users with a smoother and more intuitive experience on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). This innovative support system aims to address user queries, resolve grievances, and streamline UPI transaction mandate management.

UPI Help leverages artificial intelligence to offer intelligent and conversational support to users. As more users interact with the system, it will learn and improve its ability to provide relevant and helpful information.

Key Functions of UPI Help

  • Digital Payment Queries: The assistant is designed to answer user questions about UPI features, payment guidelines, and other digital payment-related topics. This will enable users to better understand the various aspects of UPI and how to use it effectively.
  • Grievance Redressal: UPI Help allows users to check their transaction status, log complaints, and track service-related issues, particularly those involving merchants (P2M). The system will also provide issue banks with relevant information to facilitate informed decision-making and efficient dispute resolution.
  • UPI Transaction Mandate Management: Users can view and manage all their active mandates, such as autopay settings, in a unified way. The assistant will facilitate mandate management through simple commands like pause, resume, or revoke, with deep links to the respective UPI apps. This feature empowers users to easily control their autopay mandates.

Accessibility

UPI Help will be accessible through multiple platforms:

  • Member banks' websites and chatbots
  • The DigiSaathi portal
  • UPI apps via API integration in the future

The UPI Help assistant operates on behalf of the customer's bank, ensuring that all decisions are made by the customer or the issuing bank.

NPCI has emphasized that data privacy, security, and regulatory compliance are top priorities in the development and implementation of UPI Help. Users will have the option to set spending limits, and all transactions will require confirmation before proceeding.

UPI has become one of the most popular payment methods in India, processing approximately 20 billion transactions every month. With the introduction of UPI Help, NPCI aims to further enhance user experience, address concerns, and promote the continued growth of digital payments in the country.

The launch of UPI Help is part of a broader effort by NPCI to integrate AI into the UPI ecosystem. NPCI is also piloting AI integration with banks to combat fraudulent activities and protect users from scams. These initiatives reflect NPCI's commitment to leveraging technology to enhance the security, efficiency, and user-friendliness of UPI.
