IndiGo Kolkata-Srinagar Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Varanasi; Fuel Leak Suspected
Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh – An IndiGo flight, en route from Kolkata to Srinagar, made an emergency landing at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, after the crew detected a fuel leak. Flight 6E-6961, carrying 166 passengers and crew members, landed safely at approximately 4:10 PM.
According to airport officials, the pilot promptly alerted Air Traffic Control (ATC) after noticing the fuel leak. ATC swiftly cleared the aircraft for an emergency landing, and the flight crew successfully landed the plane under controlled conditions.
Following the safe landing, all 166 passengers and crew were safely evacuated to the arrival hall. No injuries were reported. Passengers commended the crew for their calm and professional handling of the situation.
Varanasi Police and airport authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Technical teams are currently inspecting the aircraft to determine the cause of the fuel leak and carry out necessary repairs.
Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport Director, Puneet Gupta, stated that the pilot contacted ATC Varanasi immediately after noticing the fuel leak and requested priority landing.
Airport authorities confirmed that normal operations at the airport have resumed. The aircraft is expected to continue its journey to Srinagar after the completion of inspections and repairs.
