Amritsar Terror Plot Foiled: RPG-22 Seized, Two Arrested with Alleged Pakistan ISI Ties

Amritsar, India – A potential terror attack has been averted in Amritsar with the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG). The operation, conducted by the Amritsar Rural Police in close coordination with central agencies, took place on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Mehakdeep Singh alias Mehak, a resident of Wadali in Amritsar, and Aditya alias Adhi, from Bhaga Chhina village, also in Amritsar. Authorities also impounded the motorcycle they were riding.

According to Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, preliminary investigations suggest the accused were in contact with a Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) operative who allegedly sent the consignment across the border via drone. The suspects were also reportedly in contact with Harpreet Singh alias Vicky, who is currently incarcerated in Ferozepur Jail.

"The RPG was intended for a targeted terror attack," stated DGP Yadav. He further added that investigations are ongoing to uncover the entire network and establish all forward and backward linkages.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Amritsar Rural, Maninder Singh, shared operational details, stating that the arrests followed intelligence inputs regarding the retrieval of an RPG-22 Netto anti-tank rocket launcher by Mehakdeep and Aditya, acting on the instructions of Harpreet alias Vicky. The police apprehended the suspects while they were en route to deliver the consignment.

Authorities are currently working to identify the intended recipients of the weapon. SSP Singh confirmed that efforts are underway to bring Harpreet alias Vicky from Ferozepur Jail on a production warrant for further interrogation.

A case has been registered at Police Station Gharinda in Amritsar Rural under sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosives Substances Act and section 113 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

This successful operation underscores the continued threat of cross-border terrorism and the importance of intelligence-based policing and inter-agency coordination in maintaining peace and security. The Punjab Police and central agencies remain vigilant in their efforts to thwart any attempts to destabilize the region.
