Hyderabad, India – Three suspects are now in custody following a shooting that critically injured a cow vigilante near Hyderabad on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred in the Ghatkesar area, under the Pocharam IT Corridor police station limits, between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM, when Sonu Singh, also known as Prashant, was shot.
According to police reports, the victim was lured to a location by a group of individuals under the guise of providing information about cow transportation. Upon arrival, one of the individuals allegedly opened fire, hitting Sonu Singh. The victim sustained a bullet injury and is currently in critical condition at Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad. Doctors are working to save him, and reports indicate the bullet is lodged in his liver.
The Rachakonda police have launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary findings suggest the shooting occurred during an attempt to stop what the victim and his associates believed was illegal cattle transport. The police have identified and apprehended three suspects in connection with the shooting.
The incident has sparked political reactions, with BJP leaders alleging the involvement of an AIMIM worker. BJP leader Madhavi Latha claimed that the accused was linked to AIMIM and called for swift justice. She challenged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to ensure justice for the victim. Union Minister G Kishan Reddy has called for an end to "mafia activities," alleging police complicity.
Sonu Singh's mother has spoken out, demanding the government arrest the perpetrators. Speaking to news agency ANI, she stated that her son had been protecting cows for 5-6 years.
Tensions remain high as the investigation continues, and political figures are calling for a thorough and impartial inquiry into the matter. The police are analyzing CCTV footage and mobile data to gather more evidence.
