EU sanctions 45 entities, including 3 Indian firms, over links to Russia amidst ongoing conflict.

The European Union has sanctioned 45 entities, including three India-based companies, for allegedly having links to the Russian military-industrial complex. The EU's action is part of its 19th package of sanctions aimed at increasing economic pressure on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

The three Indian firms included in the sanctions are Aerotrust Aviation Private Limited, Ascend Aviation India Private Limited, and Shree Enterprises. These companies are accused of directly supporting Russia's military by enabling the circumvention of export restrictions on advanced technology items. These items include computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools, microelectronics, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and other advanced technologies.

The EU stated that the listed entities will face tighter export restrictions, specifically regarding dual-use goods and items that could contribute to the technological advancement of Russia's defense sector.

Out of the 45 entities sanctioned, 17 are located in third countries outside of Russia. Twelve are in China, including Hong Kong, three in India, and two in Thailand.

There was no immediate reaction from Indian officials to the EU action.

These measures reflect the EU's continued efforts to clamp down on entities that may be aiding Russia in circumventing sanctions and supporting its military operations in Ukraine. The inclusion of companies from India, China, and Thailand highlights the global scope of the EU's scrutiny and its commitment to preventing the flow of technology and resources to Russia's defense sector.
