Navi Mumbai, October 24, 2025 – Team India has advanced to the semifinal of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 after defeating New Zealand by 53 runs. The victory at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai broke India's three-match losing streak and secured their place as the fourth team to qualify for the knockout stage, joining Australia, England, and South Africa.
India's innings was defined by outstanding performances from Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal, who scored centuries. Mandhana's impressive 109 off 95 balls and Rawal's 122 off 134 propelled India to a total of 340/3 in 49 overs, after a rain interruption.
New Zealand, needing a win to stay in contention, won the toss and chose to bowl first. Due to rain delays, their target was adjusted to 325 in 44 overs using the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method. Despite Brooke Halliday's impressive 81, New Zealand struggled to maintain the required run rate, finishing at 271/8. Renuka Singh Thakur's key dismissals of Georgia Plimmer and captain Sophie Devine significantly hampered New Zealand's chase.
With India's place in the semifinals secured, the focus now shifts to who they will face in the crucial match. The opponent will be determined by the outcome of the match between Australia and South Africa.
The semi-final match is scheduled for October 30 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. India had started the World Cup strongly with wins against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, before suffering consecutive losses to South Africa, Australia and England.
The first semi-final will be held on October 29 in Guwahati. The final is scheduled for November 2. India is hosting the event, which commenced on September 30. The tournament will conclude on November 2.
This is India's fourth time hosting the Women's Cricket World Cup, and Sri Lanka's first. The venues for the tournament include Navi Mumbai, Guwahati, Indore, Visakhapatnam in India, and Colombo in Sri Lanka.
