Rohit Sharma Enters Elite ODI Club: Reaching 100 Catches for India in Memorable Feat

Sydney, October 25, 2025 - Rohit Sharma has etched his name further into Indian cricketing folklore, joining the distinguished "100 catches" club in One Day Internationals (ODIs). The veteran cricketer achieved this milestone during the third and final ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). In doing so, he becomes only the sixth Indian fielder to reach this landmark.

Sharma's achievement highlights his all-round abilities and commitment to the team, proving his worth as a dependable fielder in addition to his well-established batting prowess. The former Indian captain reached the milestone in the first innings of the match against Australia. Before this match, Sharma had 98 catches in ODIs.

The 38-year-old showcased his sharp reflexes and safe hands by taking two crucial catches in the same match. The first came in the 38th over, when Mitchell Owen edged a delivery from Harshit Rana to first slip, where Sharma completed a clean catch. His second catch arrived in the 44th over, dismissing Nathan Ellis at short mid-wicket off Prasidh Krishna's bowling.

With this achievement, Sharma joins an elite list of Indian cricketers who have taken 100 or more catches in ODIs. The list is currently topped by Virat Kohli with 164 catches. Following Kohli are Mohammad Azharuddin (156), Sachin Tendulkar (140), Rahul Dravid (124) and Suresh Raina (102). Sharma now occupies the sixth position with 100 catches.

While Virat Kohli reached his current number of 164 catches in 305 matches, Sharma took his 100th catch in his 276th ODI.

Sharma has played 8 ODI matches in 2025, scoring 302 runs. He has one century and one half-century in those innings.

Beyond his fielding milestone, Sharma has had a remarkable ODI career. Recently, he surpassed Sourav Ganguly to become India's third-highest run-scorer in ODIs. Sharma now has 11,249 runs, trailing only Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. In his ODI career, Sharma has 32 centuries and 59 fifties. His highest score remains the record-breaking 264 against Sri Lanka.

Sharma's ODI records in Australia are also noteworthy. He has 1,328 runs in 30 ODIs in Australia at an average of 53.12. He also has five centuries and four half-centuries.

The Indian team will be hoping to carry this momentum forward, with key contributions from senior players like Sharma crucial for their success.
