New Delhi, October 25, 2025 – Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a sharp attack on Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during a political address today, employing a Hindi proverb to criticize Yadav's stance on crime and dubbing Gandhi's campaign a "Ghuspetiya Bachao Yatra".
Shah's remarks, made to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers, centered on the upcoming Bihar elections and the strategies of the opposition parties. He accused the Congress of prioritizing the protection of "illegal infiltrators" from Bangladesh over development issues.
Referring to Tejashwi Yadav's comments on the crime situation, Shah used the proverb "'Sau chuhe kha kar, billi haj ko chali'," which translates to "After eating a hundred mice, the cat goes on a pilgrimage," suggesting that Yadav's concern about crime was hypocritical.
Turning his attention to Rahul Gandhi, Shah criticized the Congress leader's "Voter Adhikar Yatra" (Voter Rights March), arguing that its true aim was to shield infiltrators. "Rahul Gandhi did a Yatra... The topic of his yatra was not vote theft. The topic was not good education, employment, electricity, roads... The topic of the Yatra was protecting the infiltrators who have come from Bangladesh…. This was Rahul Gandhi's 'Ghuspetiya Bachao Yatra'," Shah stated. He questioned whether infiltrators should have the right to vote, receive free rations, or access jobs and housing at the expense of Indian youth. Shah urged BJP workers to warn people that if the Congress returned to power, Bihar would be "teeming with infiltrators".
The BJP has seemingly adopted the "ghuspetiya" (infiltrator) issue as a key campaign theme for the Bihar elections. Shah alleged that Rahul Gandhi's "Voter Adhikar Yatra" was not focused on "vote theft," but rather on protecting infiltrators, despite reports indicating the Yatra addressed concerns about voter roll revisions and alleged disenfranchisement. Shah claimed the Congress party spreads false narratives and focuses on shielding "illegal infiltrators". He also accused the Congress of employing similar tactics in the past, such as falsely claiming the BJP would scrap reservations for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
In response to these allegations, the Congress has maintained that individuals arrested in connection with disruptions during Rahul Gandhi's rallies were not associated with their party and accused the BJP of attempting to undermine the Yatra's image. The "Voter Adhikar Yatra" saw Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav campaigning against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
Shah also took the opportunity to criticize the RJD, accusing the party of corruption and expressing confidence in a significant BJP victory in the upcoming elections. He urged BJP workers to ensure such a large margin of victory that Tejashwi Yadav would not dare to contest future elections.
