Swati Maliwal Intensifies 'Sheesh Mahal 2.0' Critique of Kejriwal, Naming Him 'Punjab's Super CM'

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal has launched a renewed attack against Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of acquiring a lavish residence in Chandigarh and misusing Punjab state resources. Maliwal's allegations, made on October 31, 2025, center around a "seven-star" government bungalow purportedly allotted to Kejriwal in Chandigarh's Sector 2, reigniting the "Sheesh Mahal" controversy that previously plagued his tenure as Delhi's Chief Minister.

Maliwal took to social media platform X to express her criticism, stating that Kejriwal has constructed an even more magnificent "Sheesh Mahal" in Punjab than the one in Delhi, after vacating the latter. She claimed that the luxurious bungalow, situated on two acres, was allocated to Kejriwal from the Chief Minister's quota.

"After Delhi's Sheesh Mahal was vacated, Arvind Kejriwal has built a Sheesh Mahal in Punjab, even more magnificent than Delhi's,” Maliwal wrote on X.

In addition to the "Sheesh Mahal 2.0" accusation, Maliwal has also accused Kejriwal of effectively acting as "Punjab's Super CM". She alleges that the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is diverting state resources to serve Kejriwal's personal needs and political activities. As an example, she cited an instance where Kejriwal allegedly used a government helicopter to travel from his residence to Ambala, followed by a private jet from the Punjab government to travel to Gujarat for party-related work. "The entire Punjab government is busy serving one man," Maliwal stated.

The "Sheesh Mahal" reference alludes to the controversy surrounding the renovation of Kejriwal's official residence during his time as Delhi's Chief Minister, which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized as extravagant. Maliwal has frequently used the term to target Kejriwal and the AAP, accusing them of prioritizing luxury over governance and neglecting civic issues in Delhi.

The BJP has also seized upon Maliwal's allegations, accusing Kejriwal of having been allotted a "seven-star" bungalow in Chandigarh and terming it 'Sheesh Mahal 2.0'. The Delhi BJP shared a Google Maps image of the house on X, alleging that Kejriwal has received a luxurious 7-star government bungalow of 2 acres from the CM's quota in Sector 2, Chandigarh.

The AAP has dismissed the allegations as baseless and challenged the BJP to produce an allotment letter to substantiate their claims. The party stated that the BJP is sharing random pictures of the Punjab Chief Minister's camp office and spreading lies. The AAP further argued that Chandigarh's administration is under the BJP, implying that any construction or allotment would require their approval.

The controversy comes after Maliwal's allegations in May 2024 that she was assaulted by Kejriwal's personal assistant, Bibhav Kumar, at the Chief Minister's residence. The incident led to Kumar's arrest and a strained relationship between Maliwal and the AAP leadership.
