The Delhi Ranji Trophy team is facing a significant crisis, marked by off-field turmoil and on-field failures. The team currently sits in sixth place in Group D with just seven points from four matches. To have any chance of qualifying for the knockouts, they need to win all their remaining fixtures, which seems a near-impossible task given their current form.

A key issue plaguing the team is the alleged lack of direction from head coach Sarandeep Singh. Sources suggest that he is dwelling on past glories rather than focusing on the present challenges and developing effective strategies. This has led to poor preparation and questionable team selections. It's reported that selections for the Ranji Trophy have been based on performances in the Delhi Premier League, a T20 league, rather than multi-day matches. The team also didn't participate in any multi-day fixtures before the season opener, unlike other teams.

Adding to the chaos, a senior selector, Manu Nayar, has reportedly left the team mid-season to participate in a private cricket league in the United States. This further disrupts the team's stability and raises questions about the commitment of key personnel.

Internal politics and factionalism within the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) continue to hamper the team's progress. A controversy arose during a selection committee meeting when secretary Ashok Sharma objected to the presence of three directors, emphasizing the need for transparency and fairness in the selection process.

The team's recent performance has been dismal, including a historic defeat to Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) by seven wickets – their first-ever loss to J&K in 65 years. J&K chased down a target of 179, with Qamran Iqbal scoring an unbeaten 133. Earlier, J&K had secured a 99-run lead, with Paras Dogra's 106 and Abdul Samad's 85 contributing significantly. Delhi's batting faltered, with only Ayush Badoni showing some resistance with scores of 64 and 72.

Delhi's U-23 team is also struggling, currently at the bottom of their group. The DDCA has been criticized for picking a jumbo squad for the U-23 State A trophy without any official announcement, informing players through phone calls and WhatsApp groups.

The onus is now on the DDCA, led by Rohan Jaitley, to restore order and address the issues plaguing Delhi cricket. With questionable selections, lack of strategic direction, and off-field distractions, the team is far from the powerhouse it once was in domestic cricket.
