Negotiations between the Los Angeles Kings and forward Adrian Kempe for a contract extension are reportedly intensifying. According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, representatives from the Kings and Kempe's camp convened in Toronto recently, coinciding with the Kings' visit to face the Maple Leafs.
While the finer details are still being worked out, the framework of the potential deal is becoming clearer. Initial estimations suggest an average annual value (AAV) ranging from $9.5 million to $11.5 million. However, recent contracts, such as Martin Nečas's deal with the Colorado Avalanche, are influencing expectations, with speculation that Kempe's contract could reach double-digit millions in AAV.
Kempe's current four-year contract, with an AAV of $5.5 million, is set to expire at the end of the 2025-2026 season. The proposed extension aims to secure the 29-year-old as a cornerstone of the franchise for the foreseeable future.

Adrian Kempe has emerged as a vital player for the Kings, especially after his breakout season a few years ago. In the 2021-22 season, Kempe led the Kings with 35 goals and totaled 54 points in 78 games. His contributions extended into the playoffs, where he led the team with six points in seven games against the Edmonton Oilers. Kempe's ability to score goals, coupled with his two-way play, has made him an indispensable asset to the Kings.
