Navy Officer's Life Spared by Fortuitous Errand

In a twist of fate, a last-minute errand transformed into a life-saving event for a 27-year-old Navy officer, Tarun Kumar. Kumar was scheduled to board a bus, but a change of plans kept him from his intended journey, unknowingly shielding him from unforeseen danger.

Kumar had even informed the bus driver that he would be on the bus. However, due to circumstances that can only be described as serendipitous, he was not on board when the bus departed. Hilzinger found the veteran convulsing in a locked vehicle and administered CPR, tending to him for 45 minutes until first responders arrived. His efforts earned him the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for non-combat heroism.
