"Behen Hai Meri": Siblings Claim Cops Harassed Them At Bihar Eatery
A police officer in Bihar has been suspended after a video went viral showing him allegedly harassing a brother and sister at a restaurant in Katihar district's Barsoi. The incident occurred on October 24 at the BR-11 Restaurant. The video, which sparked public outrage, shows the Station House Officer (SHO) questioning the siblings.
In the widely circulated CCTV footage, the SHO approaches the table where the siblings are seated. The officer is heard asking the man, "Kaun hai ye (Who is this sitting with you)?". The man calmly responds, "Behen hai meri (She is my sister)". Despite this, the officer reportedly escalated the situation, raising his voice and using objectionable language, which has been described as intimidation and misuse of authority. The officer accused the man of "talking back" and told him to "watch his tone and temper". The man responded calmly, "Aapne poocha toh maine bola behen hai (You asked, so I just told you that she is my sister)". Another police officer then joined in as the exchange escalated into an argument. Other customers watched as a man tried to defuse the situation.
Senior police officials reviewed the video and promptly launched an internal inquiry. The investigation concluded that the SHO's conduct was unacceptable, confirming he used inappropriate language and displayed careless and arbitrary behavior. His actions significantly tarnished the police force's image. The officer was immediately suspended. Authorities confirmed that further departmental action is underway.
Social media users strongly condemned the officer's behavior, accusing the police of abusing their authority and lacking sensitivity. One user commented that police officers should be trained on how to behave and communicate with common people. The suspension is a strong message against the misuse of power and harassment of citizens. The police force is expected to maintain law and order while respecting the public.
