New Delhi, October 29, 2025 – Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju declared Urdu "the most beautiful language in the world" and emphasized the critical importance of Hindu-Muslim harmony for the progress and unity of India.
Rijiju made these remarks at the 105th Foundation Day celebration of Jamia Millia Islamia. He commended the university for its embodiment of India's composite culture and democratic spirit. He also recalled the support of Mahatma Gandhi and Sarojini Naidu in the university's establishment. Rijiju praised the university's motto song for reflecting the nation's values.
Addressing the gathering, Rijiju acknowledged the importance of open debate in a democracy. He noted that people express their views strongly, which sometimes leads to disagreements. However, he emphasized that such expression is not harmful as long as it doesn't cause damage to the country. He mentioned the frequent disruptions in Parliament, stating that it is a place where different ideas are voiced. As the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Rijiju admitted that running the house can be difficult but stated that the noise in Parliament is a sign of a living democracy. Despite the disruptions, he noted that important laws are eventually passed in the interest of the country.
Rijiju highlighted the Indian Constitution as the nation's greatest strength, providing solutions to every problem and ensuring the safety of its citizens. He stressed that maintaining social harmony is a shared responsibility.
He lauded the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) and expressed his admiration for Jamia Millia Islamia's educational standards and national rankings.
Jamia Millia Islamia has served as a beacon of excellence in education, research, and service to the nation for over a century, nurturing minds and shaping future leaders to build a stronger India, as stated by Rijiju.
