In a move aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and addressing long-standing local demands, the Srinagar-Katra Vande Bharat Express has commenced a two-minute halt at Reasi Railway Station, effective today, October 29, 2025. This marks a significant development for the people of the Reasi district, as the semi-high-speed train, numbered 26401-26402, now provides a crucial link to the Kashmir Valley.
The inaugural stop at Reasi Railway Station was celebrated with a ceremony attended by MLA Reasi, Kuldeep Raj Dubey, DDC Chairman Reasi, Saraf Singh Nag, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Uchit Singhal, along with other railway officials and an enthusiastic crowd of over 500 local residents.
The Srinagar-Katra Vande Bharat Express, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6, 2025, is the first rail service to directly connect the Jammu region with the Kashmir Valley. Previously, the train had only one intermediate stop at Banihal. The addition of the Reasi stop is a direct response to persistent public demand and aims to enhance travel convenience for passengers in Reasi and surrounding areas.
According to the new schedule, the Vande Bharat Express will depart from Katra Railway Station at 08:10 am and arrive at Reasi Railway Station at 08:28 am before continuing its journey towards Srinagar. On its return journey, the train will arrive at Reasi Railway Station at 16:34 pm.
Uchit Singhal, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu Division, emphasized the strategic importance of the new halt, stating that it addresses the rising passenger demand from Reasi, a major religious and tourist destination. Reasi attracts numerous devotees visiting the Vaishno Devi shrine and tourists eager to see the Chenab Bridge, the world's highest railway bridge.
Local residents and business organizations have welcomed the move, anticipating increased footfall to nearby attractions and a boost to the local economy. Pankaj Malhotra, a Reasi-based entrepreneur, expressed optimism that the Vande Bharat's stop will attract more visitors, benefiting local businesses and creating job opportunities for the youth.
The Northern Railway has requested the commercial department to closely monitor ticket sales at the stations and submit a report within five months for review, ensuring the stoppage's effectiveness and potential continuation. Passengers have been advised to check the latest train schedule on the official railway website, 139, or through the NTES App before traveling. The railways have also stated that the stoppage should not be withdrawn unless advised.
