Ekta Nagar, Gujarat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in commemorating Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, also known as National Unity Day, on October 31st, honoring the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The celebrations, centered around the Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, paid tribute to Patel's pivotal role in integrating over 560 princely states into the Indian Union following independence.
The day commenced with PM Modi offering floral tributes at the Statue of Unity, the world's tallest statue, symbolizing Patel's towering legacy. He then participated in the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas parade, a vibrant display of national unity and integrity. The parade featured contingents from various state police forces, the Border Security Force (BSF), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). This year's parade was especially unique, mirroring the grandeur of the Republic Day parade. A standout feature was the BSF marching contingent, which exclusively comprised Indian breed dogs like Rampur Hounds and Mudhol Hounds, showcasing the spirit of "Aatmanirbhar Bharat".
The Prime Minister also administered the National Unity Pledge, reinforcing the nation's commitment to unity, integrity, and security. In his address to the gathering, PM Modi highlighted Sardar Patel's instrumental role in shaping India's destiny during its formative years. He emphasized Patel's unwavering commitment to national integration, good governance, and public service, which continues to inspire generations.
The celebrations extended beyond the parade, encompassing cultural programs and events that showcased India's rich diversity. Tableaux from various states and central agencies, designed to reflect the theme of "Unity in Diversity," were displayed. An air display by the Indian Air Force's Suryakiran Aerobatic Team painted the skies in the colors of the Tricolour. The "Run for Unity," a nationwide marathon, also formed a key part of the celebrations, symbolizing collective strides toward national cohesion.
Several dignitaries and leaders across the nation joined in paying tribute to Sardar Patel. President Droupadi Murmu honored Patel's contribution to unifying the country. Union Home Minister Amit Shah acknowledged Patel's role in strengthening India's unity and security.
Rashtriya Ekta Diwas 2025 holds special significance as it coincides with Sardar Patel's 150th birth anniversary.
