Rajasthan Faces Tragedy as Bus-Truck Collision Claims Lives
Phalodi, Rajasthan - A major road accident in Rajasthan's Phalodi district has resulted in the deaths of at least 15 people, with several others sustaining injuries. The incident occurred on Sunday, November 2, 2025, near Matoda village on the Bharat Mala Highway, approximately 400 kilometers from Jaipur. A tempo traveller, carrying religious devotees, collided with a stationary trailer truck.
According to police reports, the tempo traveller was en route from Kolayat in Bikaner, returning to Sursagar in Jodhpur, when the tragic collision took place. The impact of the crash was severe, causing extensive damage to the tempo traveller and resulting in multiple fatalities. Initial findings suggest that negligence, potentially due to improper parking and inadequate reflective signage on the trailer, may have contributed to the collision. Eyewitnesses reported that the tempo traveller was traveling at a high speed in low visibility conditions, which may have led to the driver's failure to notice the parked trailer.
"Fifteen passengers died, while two others sustained serious injuries," stated Jodhpur Police Commissioner Om Prakash. The injured were initially taken to a hospital in Osian for primary treatment and subsequently referred to Jodhpur for advanced medical care. Authorities have confirmed that all bodies have been transported to the mortuary at the Osian government hospital.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed his condolences and assured that the government stands with the victims during this difficult time. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also conveyed his sorrow, offering prayers for the deceased and a speedy recovery for the injured.
The accident has raised concerns about road safety and the adherence to traffic regulations in the region. This incident comes just weeks after a devastating bus fire in Jaisalmer, where twenty-six people were killed. These recurring tragedies have prompted renewed calls for stricter enforcement of safety norms, regular inspections of private bus fleets, and improved emergency response systems on highways.
Local residents and fellow motorists were among the first to respond to the scene, assisting in the rescue efforts before emergency services arrived. The drivers on the expressway helped extricate the bodies from the wrecked mini bus. Rescue teams worked diligently to retrieve the bodies from the mangled vehicle. Phalodi Police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The tragic event has cast a pall of grief over the region, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures and responsible driving practices to prevent such incidents in the future.
