Kishtwar, J&K: Security forces have launched a major anti-terror operation, codenamed "Op Chhatru," in the Chhatru area of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir. The operation commenced early Wednesday morning following specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists in the area.
The Army's White Knight Corps confirmed the development in a social media post on X, stating that contact had been established with terrorists in the general area of Chhatru. An exchange of fire ensued as security forces engaged the terrorists. The operation is currently underway, with security forces maintaining a strong presence in the area.
The joint operation involves the Indian Army, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). It was launched after a coordinated search operation was initiated in the early morning hours, based on the intelligence inputs.
While details are still emerging, sources indicate that the operation is aimed at neutralizing the threat posed by terrorists in the region and maintaining peace and stability. The challenging terrain and intermittent rainfall are adding complexity to the ongoing operation.
In April 2025, a similar counter-terror operation in the Chatru region resulted in the elimination of three terrorists. The operation, which lasted several days, involved the Indian Army's Delta Force, Para Commandos, and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Major General APS Bal, General Officer Commanding (GoC) Delta Force, closely monitored the previous operation, which was hailed as a significant success in curbing terrorist activity in the Chenab Valley region.
The current "Op Chhatru" underscores the continued efforts of security forces to maintain vigilance and proactively address potential threats in the region. Further details regarding the ongoing operation are awaited as the situation develops.
