Sources within the Election Commission (EC) have stated that no appeals were filed against the electoral rolls in Haryana, following allegations by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of significant "vote theft" during the recent Haryana Assembly elections. Gandhi has accused the EC of colluding with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to manipulate the electoral process.
Gandhi claimed at a press conference on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, that the Haryana elections were not conducted fairly, alleging a large-scale "theft" of votes. He asserted that the EC was complicit with the Prime Minister and Home Minister in undermining Indian democracy. Gandhi specifically pointed to over 5 lakh duplicate voters in Haryana's electoral rolls. He further claimed that there was manipulation of votes, including duplicate and invalid entries. According to reports, Gandhi also highlighted an instance where a photograph of a Brazilian model was allegedly used to cast votes multiple times. Gandhi stated he possesses evidence to support his claims of a plan to alter the election results. In a dramatic statement, Gandhi alleged "25 lakh vote chori in Haryana".
The Election Commission sources responded by stating that no claims or objections were raised by the Indian National Congress's (INC) Booth Level Agents (BLAs) during the revision of the electoral rolls, which could have addressed concerns about multiple entries. The EC source questioned why these issues were not brought forward during the appropriate revision process.
These allegations and counter-allegations come amidst a backdrop of other election-related controversies. Recent reports highlight Zohran Mamdani's victory in the New York City mayoral race, invoking Nehru in his victory speech. Separately, Mamata Banerjee has asserted that her party would ensure the fall of the BJP government at the Centre if even a single eligible voter is removed from the poll roll.
