Mumbai, November 6, 2025 – A controversy has erupted in Maharashtra over a land deal allegedly involving Parth Pawar, son of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The issue revolves around the purported sale of government-owned land in Pune to a company where Parth Pawar is a partner, triggering a political storm and prompting an official investigation.
According to reports, approximately 40 acres of "Mahar Vatan" land, valued at ₹1,800 crore, was allegedly sold for ₹300 crore to Amadea Enterprises LLP, in which Parth Pawar is said to be a partner. Concerns have been raised regarding the waiving of stamp duty, reportedly amounting to ₹21 crore, on the transaction. Inspector General of Registration (IGR) Ravindra Binwade stated that the land in question was government property and, therefore, could not be sold to a private entity.
In response to the allegations, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered a probe into the matter. Speaking to reporters, Fadnavis stated that the issue appeared serious and that he had sought information from relevant departments to determine the facts. He added that he would be able to comment further and decide on the course of action once he had received all the details.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has not yet issued a direct statement addressing the allegations against his son. However, sources close to Pawar indicate that he has distanced himself from the controversy, stating that he was unaware of the details of the land deal and that his son is responsible for his own business decisions. Fadnavis said, "I don't think Ajit Pawar would back his son if irregularities are found in the matter".
The Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) (NCP-SP) has reacted strongly to the investigation, alleging that it is a politically motivated attempt to pressure Ajit Pawar. Anish Gawande, the national spokesperson for NCP-SP, questioned the timing and urgency of the investigation, suggesting that it was a tactic to destabilize the NCP (Ajit Pawar). "Rohit Pawar has already indicated that the BJP is attempting to lure MLAs ahead of the 2029 elections. Is this inquiry merely another strategy to exert pressure on Ajit Dada and dismantle the NCP (Ajit Pawar)? Maharashtra deserves justice, not investigations wielded as political tools," Gawande stated.
Meanwhile, the government has suspended tehsildar Suryakant Yewale and sub-registrar Ravindra Taru in connection with the land deal. Inspector General of Registration (IGR) Ravindra Binwade has confirmed the formation of a high-level committee to investigate the transaction and determine whether the exemption was granted in accordance with regulations. The committee will examine the documents submitted during the registration process to ascertain how the land was processed for sale.
NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar has also been actively questioning the Fadnavis administration, this time about land transfers for the BJP's new headquarters in Mumbai. Pawar alleges that irregularities were overlooked in the land transfer, as the land would be used for the saffron party's office. Fadnavis refuted these allegations, stating that the BJP purchased private land near Churchgate station following all legal procedures and with due permissions.
