Lucknow: A recent meeting between Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan and party President Akhilesh Yadav has sparked political buzz, sending a message of strength and unity amid ongoing challenges for the party. The meeting, which took place at Yadav's residence in Lucknow, marks Khan's first visit to the state capital since his release from jail.

The meeting, lasting approximately 45 minutes, was described as cordial, with discussions held over tea and snacks. Yadav shared photographs of the meeting on social media, emphasizing the heritage of their shared relationship. Khan, who had been incarcerated for nearly two years on multiple charges, conveyed that the purpose of his visit was to demonstrate resilience and advocate for justice.

Khan's release from jail followed a period of significant political turmoil and numerous legal challenges. After being released in September 2025 after spending 23 months behind bars, Yadav met Khan at his residence in Rampur on October 8. During that visit, Yadav pledged to end what he characterized as false cases against Khan when elected to power in 2027 and described Khan as a foundation of the party.

The recent meeting in Lucknow is viewed as politically significant, particularly as the SP campaigns for the Bihar Assembly elections. Although Khan is named in the party's list of star campaigners, he has yet to actively participate in the campaign trail. Khan suggested his incarceration might have shifted public perception, expressing hope that people now understand the injustices he faced.

Khan emphasized the enduring nature of his relationship with the Yadav family, stating that it spans generations and represents a bond that would take centuries to break. He dismissed speculations of discord within the party, affirming his continued association and commitment to the SP's principles.

Both leaders highlighted the importance of remembering past injustices to prevent their recurrence, with Khan noting that many party members remain incarcerated. He also acknowledged a change in perception from some who previously opposed him, noting that they now offer support and empathy.
