Nagpur, Maharashtra - Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat emphasized the importance of spiritual growth alongside economic progress for India to achieve its potential as a true "Vishwaguru". Speaking at a temple event in Nagpur, Bhagwat stated that while economic achievements are significant, they are not unique, and India's true distinction lies in its "adhyatma" (spiritual wisdom) and religious values.
Bhagwat clarified that becoming a Vishwaguru isn't solely about economic prowess, as nations like the United States and China have also attained economic success. He asserted that the world looks to India for its spirituality and religion, and it is through the growth in these areas that India will gain global recognition and respect. "Even if our nation becomes a 3 trillion dollar economy, it would be nothing new in the world, as there are several other such countries," Bhagwat said. "However, the world lacks the spirituality and religion that we possess. The world comes to us for it".
To rise in spirituality and religion, Bhagwat suggested that it requires more than just celebrating festivals and worship. He urged that lives should become "fearless” like Lord Shiva, sharing goodness and curbing negativity. He explained that Bharat becomes great because of its inherent characteristics. He said that one must internalize virtues like bravery, purity, sacrifice, and service.
Bhagwat also touched upon the importance of preserving India's identity, emphasizing that "Bharat" is not merely a name but a profound identity that should remain unchanged. He cautioned that losing one's identity, regardless of other merits, leads to a lack of respect and security in the world. According to Bhagwat, global respect for India is rooted in its "Bharatiyata", its original identity as Bharat. "Bharat is a proper noun. It should not be translated," Bhagwat stated. "The identity of Bharat is respected because it is Bharat".
