Tej Pratap Yadav's security heightened before Bihar elections due to life threat; says media attention constant.

Patna, Bihar – In the lead-up to the Bihar polls, Janshakti Janta Dal (JJD) Chief Tej Pratap Yadav has stated that his security has been increased due to perceived threats to his life. The confirmation came on Saturday, November 9, 2025, as Yadav addressed reporters in Patna.

"My security has been increased because there is a threat to my life," Yadav told reporters. When questioned about the reason for the heightened security, he responded in Hindi, "Humare upar khatra hain naa isiliye badhayi hai". Sources suggest that local intelligence inputs prompted the increased security measures. However, officials have not yet released any formal statement regarding the nature of the threat or whether a formal complaint has been lodged.

Yadav also quipped about the media's constant attention. Addressing a reporter, he said, "Aap log toh ghoom firr k humare hi peeche pade rehte hain," which loosely translates to, "You people are always after me".

The security upgrade comes amidst rising criminal incidents and escalating political tensions in Bihar. Earlier this month, Yadav urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government to enhance his personal security, deeming the existing arrangements insufficient. He voiced his concerns following the death of Jan Suraaj worker Dular Chand Yadav, who was killed while campaigning in Mokama.

The Bihar government has been actively reviewing and upgrading the security cover for various leaders ahead of the assembly election. In August, the security cover for several leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, was enhanced.

The first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections concluded recently with a high voter turnout. Polling took place across 121 constituencies in 18 districts. The second phase of polling is scheduled for November 11, with vote counting set for November 14.

In related news, Yadav was recently booked for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during the filing of his nomination papers. The case was registered after a video surfaced showing Yadav using an SUV with a police logo and beacon light during a procession.

Yadav's political career has been marked by periods of both prominence and controversy. He was expelled from the RJD in May following a controversial social media post and subsequent family discord.
