Two Special Police Officers (SPOs) in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, have been dismissed from their positions following allegations of their involvement with terrorist activities. The dismissed officers, Abdul Latief and Mohd Abbas, had been previously arrested on suspicion of aiding and supporting terrorist groups operating in the region.
The dismissal orders were issued by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua, Mohita Sharma, with immediate effect. SSP Sharma stated that the dismissals align with the police department's zero-tolerance policy towards any collaboration with anti-national elements. Authorities said that Abdul Latief was found to be in direct contact with militants and is currently lodged in Doda Jail, while Mohammad Abbas faces four separate FIRs for his alleged involvement in terror-related activities.
According to officials, both officers are accused of providing support and assistance to terrorists, including logistical aid and safe passage. The investigation revealed that the SPOs were actively involved in assisting with logistics and providing safe passage to suspected militants.
The dismissals occurred amidst intensified police operations targeting terror networks in the Jammu region. Raids have been conducted across multiple districts to dismantle sleeper cells and prevent infiltration. These raids are particularly focused on local terrorists operating from Pakistan and their overground workers (OGWs). A massive cordon and search operation is underway at more than a dozen places in Ramban, Kathua and Rajouri districts.
In addition to the dismissals, police have continued inspections of SIM card vending outlets across Kathua district for the second consecutive day. The initiative aims to strengthen the verification process for new SIM registrations and curb the potential misuse of mobile connectivity. Vendors have been instructed to maintain accurate records of all transactions and strictly follow procedures for collecting and verifying identity documents. SSP Mohita Sharma warned that negligence or non-compliance with KYC guidelines could invite strict action, including legal proceedings.
Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) has also launched coordinated raids across Kashmir, targeting individuals allegedly misusing social media platforms to incite violence, spread anti-national propaganda, and foster communal hatred. Nine suspects, including one female, have been detained, and a cache of incriminating evidence has been seized for forensic examination.
These actions highlight the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat terrorism and maintain peace and security in the Jammu and Kashmir region.
