Al-Falah: From Engineering Roots to University Status
Al-Falah University, located in Faridabad, Haryana, has a history rooted in technical education, beginning as an engineering college in 1997. This transformation reflects the Al-Falah Charitable Trust's commitment to expanding educational opportunities in the region.
The Genesis: Al-Falah School of Engineering and Technology
The journey began with the establishment of Al-Falah School of Engineering and Technology (AFSET) in 1997. Founded by the Al-Falah Charitable Trust, it was established as a Muslim Minority Institution. The college was affiliated with Maharishi Dayanand University and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Initially, AFSET offered undergraduate programs in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering, with an intake of 45 students in each branch. Classes began in a temporary campus in Gurgaon before moving to its current 70-acre campus in Dhauj, Faridabad.
Over the years, AFSET expanded its offerings, introducing new undergraduate and postgraduate programs. By 2013, the institution had earned an "A" grade accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). In addition to engineering, Al-Falah also established the Al-Falah School of Education and Training in 2006.
Transition to Al-Falah University
Recognizing the potential for broader academic offerings, the Al-Falah Charitable Trust spearheaded the establishment of Al-Falah University. The Haryana Legislative Assembly passed The Haryana Private Universities (Amendment) Act, 2014, officially establishing the university. Al-Falah University was subsequently recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2015.
Al-Falah University maintains a focus on research, innovation, and providing modern education. The university is equipped with classrooms, advanced laboratories, a library, and sports and hostel facilities.
Academic Programs
Al-Falah University offers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and doctoral programs across various disciplines. These include engineering and technology, management, commerce, education, humanities, law, and medical sciences. Popular programs include B.Tech, MBA, BCA, B.Sc, and B.Com. The Al-Falah School of Medical Sciences and Research Centre received approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to admit its first batch of MBBS students in 2019. The university emphasizes a blend of theoretical and practical learning, with well-equipped laboratories and experienced faculty.
Al-Falah Charitable Trust
Al-Falah University is an endeavor of the Al-Falah Charitable Trust. The Al-Falah Charitable Trust was founded with the goal of challenging poverty and injustice. Inspired by Islamic teachings, the trust aims to alleviate poverty and suffering, especially in rural communities.
Recent Developments
In late October and early November 2025, Al-Falah University faced scrutiny following a joint operation by Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir police. The operation uncovered explosives and arms from rented accommodations reportedly used by a faculty member. Investigations suggested links to militant organizations. Additionally, the university's website was reportedly hacked by a group claiming to be the Indian Cyber Alliance. Citing the Red Fort blast, the group stated, "Radical Islamic jihad better shift to Pakistan".
