Harmanpreet Kaur Reveals Her Favorite Cricketer: Virat Kohli or MS Dhoni? A Tough Choice.

Chennai, India – Fresh off leading the Indian women's cricket team to their historic victory at the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, captain Harmanpreet Kaur recently participated in a felicitation ceremony at Velammal Nexus School in Chennai. The event, celebrating the team's maiden ODI World Cup title secured on November 2nd against South Africa, saw Kaur engaging with students and sharing insights about her journey and inspirations.

During an interactive session, Kaur was posed with the quintessential cricket fan question: "Who is your favorite cricketer, Virat Kohli or MS Dhoni?". Without hesitation, she chose Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former Indian captain and two-time World Cup winner. The crowd erupted in cheers, reflecting Dhoni's strong fan base, particularly in Chennai, owing to his long-standing association with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League.

Kaur's response highlights Dhoni's significant influence on the sport and its players. Known for his calm demeanor, strategic brilliance, and exceptional finishing skills, Dhoni has revolutionized limited-overs cricket and inspired generations of cricketers. Kaur's admiration extends beyond Dhoni's achievements, encompassing his leadership under pressure and exemplary sportsmanship.

In addition to revealing her favorite cricketer, Kaur shared that her biggest inspiration is former Indian batter Virender Sehwag, known for his aggressive batting style. She also expressed her fondness for Test cricket, the traditional and arguably most challenging format of the game.

Kaur's achievement in leading India to its first-ever ICC Women's Cricket World Cup title places her in an elite group of Indian captains, alongside Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni, and Rohit Sharma, who have also led the nation to World Cup victories. This year marked her fifth World Cup appearance since her debut in 2009.

During the event, Kaur shared a message for young girls, encouraging them to "work hard and stay focused," emphasizing that discipline and dedication have been crucial to her success. She also expressed her pride in the increasing popularity of women's cricket in India, noting the growing viewership and packed stadiums. "It is good to see that now people only talk about cricket without comparing (men's and women's cricket). Now everyone enjoys, and the viewership is high, stadiums are full; it is a proud moment," Kaur stated.

Kaur also relayed a message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who encouraged the World Cup-winning squad to visit schools and inspire students. "He asked us to visit schools and inspire students whenever we get a chance. I am grateful that I got that chance today; it was a very heartwarming moment for me," she said.

India's journey to the World Cup title was marked by challenges, including overcoming three consecutive defeats in the league stage. However, the team demonstrated resilience and determination, ultimately defeating South Africa in the final by 52 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
