Chapra 2025 Election Showdown: BJP's Chhoti Kumari vs. RJD's Shatrughan Kumar in Fierce Battle for Victory.

Chapra is witnessing a fierce electoral battle in the 2025 Assembly elections, with Chhoti Kumari of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shatrughan Kumar of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) emerging as key contenders for the MLA seat. The Chapra Assembly constituency, located in the Saran district of Bihar, went to the polls on November 6, 2025.

In addition to Chhoti Kumari and Shatrughan Kumar, other candidates in the fray include Jai Prakash Singh from the Jan Suraaj Party, Rajesh Kushwaha from Bhartiya Lok Chetna Party, and Shak Naushad from Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram). Several independent candidates are also contesting, including Md Sultan Hussen Idrishi, Padma Mishra, Rakhi Gupta, and Rana Yashwant Pratap Singh.

The Chapra Assembly constituency is a General category seat and one of the six assembly segments within the Saran parliamentary constituency. In the 2020 assembly elections, Dr. C. N. Gupta of the BJP retained the seat, securing 75,710 votes, which accounted for 45.5% of the total votes cast, with a voter turnout of 53.5%. He defeated RJD's Randhir Kumar Singh, who was the runner-up with 68,939 votes. Dr. C. N. Gupta had also won the constituency for the BJP in 2015, securing 71,646 votes (45.3%) with a 52.1% turnout.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Rajiv Pratap Rudy of the BJP won against RJD's Rohini Acharya, securing 92,155 votes (53.1%) compared to her 69,839 votes (40.3%).

The voter turnout in Chapra for the 2025 Assembly election was 58.61%, slightly higher than in 2020. The counting of votes began at 8 am on November 14, 2025, and the results are awaited.

The political landscape in Bihar is dominated by regional alliances, primarily the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan and the NDA, which includes the JD(U) and BJP. This election is crucial for both alliances as they vie for dominance in the state.

The outcome of the Chapra election will be a significant indicator of the shifting political dynamics in Bihar. The constituency has a history of witnessing close contests, and this year's election is expected to be no different.
