Mahua Election Results 2025 Highlights: Tej Pratap Back in Ring, Attempts to Wrest Back His Debut Seat
Patna, Bihar – The Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 results are being announced today, November 14, 2025, and all eyes are set on the Mahua constituency in the Vaishali district. This Yadav-dominated seat is witnessing a high-stakes battle as Tej Pratap Yadav, son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, attempts to reclaim the seat he won in his debut election.
The Battle for Mahua
Tej Pratap Yadav, contesting under the banner of his newly-formed Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD), is up against a formidable opponent: the incumbent RJD MLA Mukesh Kumar Raushan. Raushan had wrested the seat in the 2020 elections, a factor adding more intensity to this electoral contest.
In the 2025 race, Tej Pratap Yadav also faced competition from Sanjay Kumar Singh of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and Indrajeet Pradhan of the Jan Suraaj Party.
A Constituency with a Storied Past
Mahua holds significant political importance, largely due to its strong Yadav voter base. The constituency played a role in launching Lalu Prasad Yadav’s elder son, Tej Pratap, into politics. Tej Pratap won the seat in 2015 with the support of JD(U), securing a significant margin of 28,155 votes. However, he did not nurture the constituency, moving to Hasanpur in Samastipur district in 2020. Despite Tej Pratap's absence, the RJD retained the seat in 2020.
Key Candidates and Parties
The primary contenders in Mahua include:
- Tej Pratap Yadav: Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD)
- Mukesh Kumar Raushan: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)
- Sanjay Kumar Singh: Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas)
- Indrajeet Pradhan: Jan Suraaj Party
Bihar Elections 2025: A Bird's Eye View
The Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 were conducted in two phases, on November 6 and November 11. The elections saw a significant voter turnout of 66.91 percent, the highest since 1951. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has reported that 62.98% of male voters cast their votes, while an impressive 71.78% turnout was recorded for female voters.
Political Dynamics in Bihar
In the 2020 elections, the NDA secured a victory with 125 elected MLAs, while the Mahagathbandhan won 110 seats. Nitish Kumar was then sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar. The political landscape in Bihar has been subject to change, with alliances shifting. In January 2024, JD(U) ended its alliance with Mahagathbandhan, and Nitish Kumar formed a new government with the BJP-led NDA.
Counting commenced at 8:00 AM today across 90,740 polling booths in the state, promising a day of intense scrutiny and anticipation.
