Bihar Election 2025: A Tight Race in Mahua – Tej Pratap Yadav and RJD Face Strong Opposition.

The 2025 Bihar election results are unfolding, and in the Mahua constituency of Vaishali district, a compelling narrative is taking shape. The spotlight is firmly on Tej Pratap Yadav, the elder son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, who is vying for the seat, but facing a stiff challenge.

Once a stronghold for Tej Pratap, who won the seat in 2015, Mahua has become a keenly contested battleground. In 2020, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) moved Tej Pratap to the Hasanpur seat, which he won. This time around, he is back in Mahua, but not with the RJD. Following a public fallout, Tej Pratap floated his own party, the Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD), and is contesting under its banner.

The primary challenger is Mukesh Kumar Raushan, the incumbent MLA from RJD who won the seat in 2020. Raushan secured 62,580 votes in 2020, defeating Ashma Parveen of the Janata Dal (United). The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) candidate, Sanjay Kumar Singh, is also a significant contender, adding another layer of complexity to the contest.

Early trends on Friday, November 14, 2025, showed a see-saw battle between Tej Pratap Yadav and his rivals. Initial reports indicated that Tej Pratap was trailing, with Sanjay Kumar Singh of the LJP (Ram Vilas) in the lead. However, as the first round of counting progressed, Tej Pratap managed to inch ahead, giving his new party a slight advantage. The lead soon shifted again, with Mukesh Raushan of the RJD overtaking Tej Pratap. Later updates showed Tej Pratap trailing by 2,855 votes.

The Mahua constituency has a history of swinging between parties. While the RJD, particularly under Tej Pratap's earlier influence, has held sway at times, the JD(U) and BJP have also demonstrated their presence in the region. This election reflects a multi-cornered fight, with personal reputation and party strength both playing crucial roles. Ashma Parveen, an independent candidate who finished second in 2020, is also in the fray.

In 2015, Tej Pratap Yadav won the Mahua seat by a significant margin, securing 66,927 votes and defeating HAM's Ravindra Ray. However, the political landscape has since changed, with Tej Pratap now charting his own course.

The outcome in Mahua remains uncertain as the counting progresses. The constituency, which falls under the Hajipur Lok Sabha seat, is witnessing a tight, personality-driven contest where every vote counts.
