The investigation into the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Meghalaya has taken a dramatic turn with the arrest of his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi. Sonam, who had been missing since her husband's body was discovered on June 2nd, was apprehended in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. Following her arrest, Sonam claimed she was drugged and brought to Uttar Pradesh, but an Uttar Pradesh police official has called her a "poor planner."

According to Additional Director General (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash of the UP Police, Sonam presented herself as a victim, claiming she was drugged and transported to Ghazipur. She reportedly informed her family of her location at a roadside eatery (dhaba) on the Ghazipur-Varanasi road, leading to her arrest in the early hours of Monday. Yash stated that Sonam's attempt to pose as a victim was unsuccessful due to her lack of knowledge of police procedures. He also commended the Meghalaya police for their work in handling the case.

Meghalaya police suspect that Sonam was involved in an extramarital affair and orchestrated the murder with her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha. Both Sonam and Raj Kushwaha have been arrested in connection with the case.

The case began when Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi, who married on May 11th, embarked on their honeymoon on May 20th. A day later, the couple arrived in Shillong, Meghalaya. On May 23rd, they went missing, triggering an extensive search. Raja's body was discovered in a gorge on June 2nd near Weisawdong Falls, with his throat slit. A machete, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered nearby.

The police investigation revealed a potential conspiracy involving Sonam and her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha. Investigators suspect that Sonam shared the couple's live location with the hired assailants. It is believed that Raj Kushwaha stayed back in Indore, while his three childhood friends, Akash, Vishal, and Anand, traveled to Guwahati via Delhi. They then met Sonam and Raja in Shillong and accompanied them to Meghalaya on May 23rd, where Raja was allegedly murdered according to the plan devised by Raj. The trio then returned to Indore.

Adding a crucial piece to the puzzle, a local tourist guide reported seeing the couple with three men on May 23rd while they were trekking. He stated that the men were conversing in Hindi, and the woman was walking behind them.

Several details surrounding the case have raised suspicions. Sonam's insistence on wearing gold jewelry and the absence of return tickets were noted. Investigators are also looking into whether Sonam withdrew a large sum of money after the wedding and before the trip. Evidence suggests frequent communication between Sonam and Raj Kushwaha, even during the honeymoon.

Sonam's family insists on her innocence, with her father demanding a CBI probe to uncover the truth. Her brother, Govind, stated that he became emotional when she called him and promptly informed the police.

The Meghalaya police have arrested three other individuals in connection with the murder: Akash Rajput, Vishal Chauhan, and Anand Kumar. These men have reportedly confessed to being hired by Sonam to kill her husband. Police sources indicate that Raj Kushwaha, who worked at a firm owned by Sonam's brother, allegedly orchestrated the murder plot.

The post-mortem report revealed that Raja Raghuvanshi died from two head injuries caused by a sharp object. A gold ring and a neck chain were missing from his body.
