The alleged murder of Haryana model Sheetal Chaudhary, also known as Simmi, has taken a new turn with the emergence of CCTV footage showing her entering a car with her boyfriend, Sunil, hours before her death. Sunil, who is now in police custody, has confessed to the crime.
Sheetal's body was discovered on Sunday in a canal in Sonipat, bearing multiple injuries, including a slit throat. The discovery came after her family filed a missing person report when she did not return home after leaving for an album shoot in Ahar village, Panipat, on June 14. Identification was confirmed through tattoos on her hand and chest.
The CCTV footage, recorded on the night of June 14 at 10:05 pm, depicts Sheetal and Sunil carrying luggage and entering a white car. Sheetal is seen holding a handbag, while Sunil carries a blue trolley bag. This footage is crucial as it captures the last known moments of Sheetal before the alleged murder.
According to police sources, Sheetal and Sunil were in a relationship. During interrogation, Sunil confessed to stabbing Sheetal during an argument and subsequently dumping her body in the canal. He then attempted to stage an accident by plunging his car into the Delhi Parallel Canal. Bystanders rescued Sunil from the vehicle, but Sheetal was not inside.
Further investigation revealed that Sheetal had made a distress video call to her sister, Neha, around 11:30 pm on June 14, stating that Sunil was assaulting her and trying to forcibly take her with him. The call abruptly ended, marking the last communication from Sheetal. By 1:30 am the next day, Sunil's car was found in the canal, suggesting the murder occurred within this timeframe.
Panipat Deputy Superintendent of Police Satish Kumar confirmed Sunil's arrest and stated that the couple had an argument on the day of the incident. Reportedly, the conflict arose because Sheetal discovered that Sunil was married, a fact he had allegedly concealed from her. Police sources suggest that Sunil grew increasingly possessive and suspected Sheetal of talking to someone else, leading to a strained relationship and ultimately the fatal assault in the car.
Authorities have registered a murder case against Sunil, and investigations are ongoing. The police are also looking into previous complaints filed by Sheetal against Sunil, though the outcomes of those reports remain unclear. The absence of forensic experts in Sonipat led to her body being sent to Khanpur for a post-mortem examination. Her remains were then handed over to her family.
