Air India's Maharaja Club is the airline's loyalty program designed to reward frequent flyers with a range of benefits and privileges. Recently revamped, the program aims to offer a more customer-friendly experience with a simplified structure and enhanced features. The program allows members to earn and redeem points across Air India and its 24 Star Alliance partner airlines.

Earning Maharaja Points

Maharaja Club members can accumulate points in several ways:

  • Flights: Points are earned on Air India flights and those of its Star Alliance partners.
  • Partner Merchants: Points can be earned through various lifestyle and banking partners.
  • Direct Bookings: Booking flights directly through the Air India website or mobile app earns bonus points. As of March 2025, members could earn 2 bonus Maharaja Points for every ₹100 spent on direct bookings.
  • Bank Reward Points Conversion: Members can convert reward points from eligible bank partners such as ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, DBS Bank, and SBI Cards into Maharaja Points.

Membership Tiers and Benefits

The Maharaja Club has four tiers, each offering increasing benefits:

  • Red: This is the entry-level tier upon enrollment, offering a bonus of 1,000 Maharaja Points after the first flight with Air India (excluding Reward Flights).
  • Silver: Requires 15,000 tier points (with at least 4,500 on Air India) or 30 flights (at least 4 on Air India).
  • Gold: Requires 30,000 tier points (with at least 9,000 on Air India) or 60 flights (at least 8 on Air India).
  • Platinum: Requires 45,000 tier points (with at least 13,500 on Air India) or 90 flights (at least 12 on Air India).

Higher tiers offer benefits like priority check-in, extra baggage allowance, lounge access, and bonus points. To maintain tier status, members must meet the required criteria each year.

Redeeming Maharaja Points

Maharaja Points can be redeemed for various travel-related benefits:

  • Award Flights: Points can be used to book flights on Air India and its Star Alliance partners.
  • Cabin Upgrades: Members can redeem points for upgrades on Air India flights.
  • Cash + Points: On Air India flights, members have the flexibility to book using a combination of cash and points.

Air India offers two fare types for award flight redemptions:

  • Value Fare: Offers minimum points deduction for advance bookings.
  • Prime Fare: Allows bookings even during peak seasons or for last-minute travel but requires more points.

Maharaja Club Points Plus Offer

In March 2025, Air India launched the "Maharaja Club Points Plus" offer, allowing frequent flyers to maximize reward points earned with eligible bank partners. This promotion, available from March 6 to March 31, 2025, allowed members to convert bank reward points into Maharaja Points and earn bonus points. Members could earn up to 50% bonus points on conversions, with a chance to accumulate as much as 1 million Maharaja Points.

For example, members could redeem 200,000 Maharaja Points for options such as:

  • Four one-way tickets from Delhi to Dubai (46,000 Maharaja Points each).
  • Five one-way tickets from Mumbai to London (42,000 Maharaja Points each).
  • One round trip from Delhi to New York in Economy Class (124,000 Maharaja Points).
  • Ten round trips from Delhi to Mumbai in Economy Class (150,000 Maharaja Points).

Recent Enhancements and Recognition

Air India has been actively working to enhance the Maharaja Club program. In June 2025, they partnered with Loyyal to introduce everyday rewards, allowing members to earn Maharaja Points on purchases with popular brands in the USA and UK. In May 2025, the Maharaja Club was named the 'Up and Coming Program of the Year' for Asia, the Middle East, and Africa at the 2025 Freddie Awards. This award reflects the airline's efforts to modernize and improve its loyalty program.
