A theft and vandalism incident has been reported at the Pune farmhouse of actress Sangeeta Bijlani, former wife of Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin. The incident occurred at her property located near Pawna Dam in the Maval area of Pune district. Bijlani discovered the break-in when she visited the farmhouse on Friday, July 18, 2025, after a gap of four months. Her absence was reportedly due to her father's illness.
Upon arrival, Bijlani was "shocked and horrified" to find the property ransacked and damaged. According to her complaint filed with the Pune Rural Police, the main door was broken, and the window grills were shattered. Inside, she found that a television set was missing, and another was damaged beyond repair. The upper floor of the farmhouse had been completely ransacked, with broken beds and missing household items and valuables. A refrigerator was also damaged. Furthermore, all the CCTV cameras installed on the premises were deliberately destroyed or vandalized. The damage to the CCTV cameras suggests that the act was premeditated.
Bijlani, who was accompanied by two domestic helpers during her visit, has expressed deep concern over the extent of the destruction. She has urged authorities to take immediate action. Bijlani described the incident as a "serious matter involving intrusion, theft, and threat to personal safety," and assured her cooperation in the investigation.
Police have registered a theft case and have begun their investigation. A team was dispatched to the scene to investigate. The Lonavala Rural Police have registered a case against unknown persons under BNS Sections 331(3), 331(4), 305(a), 324(4), and 324(5). As of July 19, 2025, no stolen property has been recovered. Authorities are currently examining the crime scene and gathering evidence.
The incident reportedly occurred sometime between March 7 and July 18, 2025, during which the bungalow was unoccupied. Initial reports suggested that cash and other valuables were stolen. However, later reports indicate that a television set worth approximately Rs 7,000 and Rs 50,000 in cash were stolen, bringing the total estimated loss to around Rs 57,000.
