The INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) bloc is holding its first meeting since the 2024 Lok Sabha elections today, July 19, 2025. The virtual meeting aims to strategize for the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament, which begins on July 21, and to discuss the prevailing political situation in the country. However, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has formally announced its exit from the alliance, adding a new dimension to the opposition's dynamics.
Key leaders from across the INDIA bloc are expected to participate in the online meeting. These include leaders from the Samajwadi Party (SP), Shiv Sena (UBT), and DMK. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav is expected to raise concerns regarding the electoral roll revisions in Bihar. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will host a parallel in-person meeting at his Delhi residence.
However, some prominent figures will be absent. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has confirmed it will not attend, formalizing its exit from the INDIA bloc. Initially, there was uncertainty regarding the participation of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), but it has been confirmed that either Mamata Banerjee or Abhishek Banerjee will attend the meeting online. Uddhav Thackeray will also not be present, although a Shiv Sena (UBT) representative is expected to attend.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has officially withdrawn from the INDIA bloc, stating that the alliance was solely for the parliamentary elections. AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said the party would now operate independently as a constructive opposition in Parliament. AAP leaders have blamed the Congress for failing to keep the opposition united and for not taking steps to further the alliance's agenda after the 2024 elections. They also accused the Congress of neglecting its responsibility as the bloc's largest constituent.
AAP's departure allows it to pursue an independent agenda and tailor its strategies to regional political realities. The party plans to contest all future elections, including the upcoming Bihar assembly polls, on its own. AAP believes that focusing on its strengths and contesting independently will help expand its footprint in states like Punjab and Gujarat. However, some Congress leaders have downplayed AAP's exit, suggesting it would strengthen the alliance by removing ambiguity.
The INDIA bloc meeting is expected to cover several critical issues. These include:
The INDIA bloc faces significant challenges, including internal differences and the need to maintain unity. The absence of key leaders like Arvind Kejriwal and the formal exit of AAP raise questions about the alliance's cohesiveness. However, the participation of other prominent leaders and the confirmation of TMC's presence signal a commitment to continue the alliance. The bloc aims to project a message of unity and work towards a consensus on key issues to effectively challenge the ruling government. The success of the INDIA bloc will depend on its ability to address internal challenges, maintain coordination, and present a united front on critical issues.
