The heartwarming Kannada film, which captured the hearts of audiences nationwide, was recognized as the Second Best Film. In addition to this honor, Rakshit Shetty himself won Best Actor for his performance. The film also received awards for Best Editing (Prateek Shetty) and Best Lyricist (Nagarjuna Sharma).
'777 Charlie' tells the story of Dharma, a lonely factory worker, and his life-changing bond with a Labrador dog named Charlie. Released in multiple languages in June 2022, the film resonated with audiences and achieved significant box office success, earning over ₹100 crore. The film also won Best Feature Kannada Film at the 69th National Awards.
Rakshit Shetty shared his feelings on social media, expressing gratitude to the jury, the audience, and his team. Director Kiranraj K. also shared his excitement about the film's recognition, particularly highlighting the hard work of Rakshit Shetty, the editor, and the lyricist. He noted Rakshit's dedication to the role, including training with the dog for almost a year and patiently giving numerous takes to ensure Charlie's comfort.
The Karnataka State Film Awards for 2021-22 celebrated the best of Kannada cinema. 'Doddahatti Boregowda', directed by Raghu KM, won the top honor of Best Film. Other notable winners included 'Bharatada Prajegalada Naavu' (Best Film with a Social Concern), 'Yuvarathnaa' (Best Popular Entertaining Film), and 'Cake' (Best Children's Film). Archana Jois won Best Actress for 'Mute'.
Following the film's success, the makers of '777 Charlie' announced that they would contribute five percent of the film's profits to NGOs dedicated to the welfare of Indie dogs and animals across the country, in the name of Charlie. Rakshit Shetty stated that this contribution was a recognition of the effort and resources required to create a happy and safe environment for animals.
