Novak Djokovic has secured his place at the 2025 ATP Finals in Turin, joining Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner as the first three players to qualify for the prestigious year-end tournament. This marks Djokovic's 18th qualification for the ATP Finals, tying Roger Federer's all-time record. The event, which will be held from November 9th to 16th at the Inalpi Arena in Turin, Italy, will feature the top eight men's singles players of the season.
Djokovic, currently ranked No. 5 in the world and No. 3 in the ATP Race standings, has had another strong season in 2025. The 38-year-old reached the semifinals at all four Grand Slam tournaments. He also won his 100th tour-level title at the Geneva Open, becoming only the third man in the Open Era to reach this milestone, after Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer. Additionally, Djokovic reached the final of the Miami Masters and the semi-finals in Shanghai.
Djokovic has a strong history at the ATP Finals, holding a record seven titles. He won the tournament in 2008, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2022 and 2023. He has also won the last two times he has played the event, defeating Casper Ruud in the 2022 final and Jannik Sinner in the 2023 final. However, he withdrew from the tournament in 2024 due to injury. Djokovic first competed in the ATP Finals in 2007 and has qualified every year since, except for 2017 when he was injured. His current record at the event stands at 50 wins and 18 losses.
Carlos Alcaraz was the first player to qualify for the 2025 ATP Finals, securing his spot in July. The 22-year-old Spaniard is aiming for his first title at the ATP Finals. His best performance came in 2023 when he reached the semi-finals before losing to Novak Djokovic. Alcaraz has had a remarkable season, winning eight titles and returning to the No. 1 ranking after the US Open.
Jannik Sinner, the defending ATP Finals champion, was the second player to qualify for the Turin event. The 24-year-old Italian has been ranked No. 1 in the world for over a year. Sinner won the 2024 Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open. He also won the ATP Finals in 2024 without dropping a set. This will be Sinner's third consecutive and fourth overall appearance at the ATP Finals.
The ATP Finals will feature a round-robin format, with the eight players divided into two groups of four. The top two players from each group will advance to the semi-finals. The criteria for determining the standings within a group are: most wins, most matches played, head-to-head result between tied players, highest percentage of sets won, and highest percentage of games won.
With three weeks remaining until the ATP Finals, the race to secure the remaining spots is intensifying. Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Alex de Minaur and Lorenzo Musetti are among those in contention. Felix Auger-Aliassime, Casper Ruud and Daniil Medvedev have also kept themselves in the race with recent title wins.
