Australian Women's Cricket Team Players Report Inappropriate Touching During World Cup Trip to India.

Two members of the Australian women's cricket team have reported being "touched inappropriately" by a motorcyclist in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. The incident occurred on Thursday, October 23, 2025, a day after the team's victory over England in the ICC Women's World Cup.

According to Cricket Australia (CA), the players were walking to a cafe on Khajrana Road, approximately three kilometers from their hotel, when the incident occurred. A motorcyclist approached them and "touched inappropriately". Following the incident, the players alerted the team's security manager, Danny Simmons, who filed a complaint with the M.I.G. Police Station.

Police have arrested Aqueel Khan in connection with the incident. He has been charged under sections 74 and 78 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which relate to assault or use of criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, and stalking. Additional DCP (Crime Branch), Indore, Rajesh Dandotiya, stated that the accused has previous criminal cases, which are under investigation.

According to police reports, the players sent a live location to Simmons indicating distress, informing him that the accused was following them and tried to grab one of them. A few minutes later, a player called Simmons, reporting that a man on a motorcycle had come dangerously close and tried to touch one of them. Both players resisted, and the accused fled. A bystander noted down the motorcycle registration number, which led to the arrest of Aqueel Khan.

Cricket Australia confirmed the incident in a statement: "We can confirm two members of the Australian Women's Team were approached and touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist while walking to a cafe in Indore,". "The matter was reported by team security to police who are handling the matter".

The Australian women's team is currently in India for the 13th edition of the Women's World Cup, hoping to defend their title won in New Zealand in 2022. The team has already qualified for the semi-finals. They played South Africa in their final group-stage match in Indore on Saturday.

Following the incident, reports indicate that additional security measures have been put in place at the tournament.
