Reliance Jio users in India are set to receive complimentary access to Google's Gemini AI Pro plan for 18 months, according to a joint announcement made on Thursday. This collaboration between Reliance and Google aims to accelerate the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across India, empowering consumers, enterprises, and developers.
The offer will initially be rolled out to users aged 18 to 25 with unlimited 5G plans, with the intention of expanding it to all eligible Jio subscribers nationwide as quickly as possible. Users will be able to activate the plan directly through the MyJio app.
The Google AI Pro plan includes access to Google's most advanced Gemini 2.5 Pro model via the Gemini app. Subscribers will also enjoy higher limits for generating images and videos using Nano Banana and Veo 3.1 models, expanded access to NotebookLM for study and research, and 2 TB of cloud storage across Google Photos, Gmail, and Drive, along with WhatsApp chat backup for Android users. The total value of these benefits is approximately ₹35,100.
Reliance's commitment to providing intelligent services accessible to all Indians aligns with Google's vision of democratizing AI access and strengthening the digital foundation for India's AI-driven future. This partnership aims to cater to India's rich cultural and linguistic diversity by exploring localized AI experiences for Jio users.
In addition to offering Google AI Pro to Jio users, Reliance is also partnering with Google Cloud to broaden access to its advanced AI hardware accelerators, Tensor Processing Units (TPUs). This will support the development of sovereign, clean energy-powered compute capabilities within India. Reliance Intelligence will also serve as a strategic partner for Google Cloud's Gemini Enterprise platform, enabling Indian businesses to leverage Google's AI tools and Reliance's proprietary AI agents for various enterprise applications.
This collaboration signifies the growing competition among telecom providers to integrate premium AI products into their mobile plans. Earlier this year, Airtel began offering a free one-year Perplexity Pro plan, and OpenAI is set to provide free access to ChatGPT Go for Indian users. The partnership between Reliance and Google marks a significant step in making AI accessible to a wider audience in India, potentially fostering innovation and growth across various sectors.
