The possibility of a third installment in the 'Raid' franchise is on the minds of many fans, especially with the recent release of 'Raid 2' on May 1, 2025. Director Rajkumar Gupta has addressed the potential for 'Raid 3', but remains cautious, stating that it's too early to confirm. He emphasizes the importance of a compelling story and audience reception to 'Raid 2' as key factors in deciding whether to move forward with another sequel.
Gupta mentioned that the writing process for 'Raid 2' took about one and a half years, even though it draws inspiration from real-life events. He also noted the inclusion of fictional elements to enhance the cinematic experience, giving them creative freedom to introduce new characters. Ritesh Shah, Gupta's co-writer, was the one who suggested bringing Saurabh Shukla back for 'Raid 2'.
Speaking about the plot of Raid 2, Gupta said that although the film is based on true events, it has a lot of fictional elements that will elevate the experience. He mentioned that they had the liberty to play around and introduce new characters in Raid 2.
The original 'Raid,' released in 2018, featured Ajay Devgn, Ileana D'Cruz, and Saurabh Shukla. 'Raid 2' sees Ajay Devgn reprising his role as IRS officer Amay Patnaik, with Riteish Deshmukh joining the cast as the antagonist, Dada Manohar Bhai. Vaani Kapoor replaces Ileana D'Cruz in the role of Ajay's character's wife. According to Rajkumar Gupta, Ajay Devgn and Riteish Deshmukh are fabulous actors, and the audience will love their face-off.
The film is set seven years after the first film, with Amay Patnaik tracking another white-collar crime. The honest hero is a Patnaik, the villain hails from a backward group that emerged from the shoe business, and the shape-shifting official who touches the feet of both the villain and the hero has no surname.
Without overtly underlining the intent, the film finds faults in the politics of social justice and coalition governments.
Before its release, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) requested a couple of dialogue changes in 'Raid 2'. The board replaced 'Railway Mantri' with 'Bada Mantri' and removed the 'Paisa, hathyar, taakat' dialogue from the beginning of the film.
When asked about the possibility of 'Raid 3', Raj Kumar Gupta responded that they need to see if Raid 2 has the potential to go to Raid 3. He also said that he is yet to decide on his next feature film and is still waiting to see which script comes together.
