Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has drawn a parallel between the recent "Operation Sindoor" and the principles of self-defense championed by the 18th-century Maratha ruler, Ahilyabai Holkar. Speaking at an event commemorating Holkar's 300th birth anniversary in Agra on Sunday, June 1, 2025, Adityanath asserted that India's strong response to the Pahalgam terror attack, manifested in "Operation Sindoor," was inspired by Holkar's legacy.
Adityanath highlighted that the BJP-led government is following the path of good governance exemplified by Ahilyabai Holkar, undertaking numerous development and public welfare projects in Uttar Pradesh. He stated that when India conducts surgical strikes and airstrikes, and when the armed forces hit back at Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack, destroying their air defense system through Operation Sindoor, it is inspired by the self-defense principles espoused by Holkar 300 years ago.
Several reports indicate that "Operation Sindoor" involved targeting terror hideouts and launch pads in mainland Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Following the operation, a state-wide red alert was declared in Uttar Pradesh, with heightened security measures implemented around vital installations and along the India-Nepal border.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also lauded "Operation Sindoor," emphasizing the strength of India's indigenous defense capabilities showcased during the operation. He noted that the BrahMos missile, manufactured in India, "entered enemy territory and caused destruction exactly where the targets were marked," giving the enemy sleepless nights. Modi has cautioned that "Operation Sindoor" is "not over yet," reiterating India's firm stance against terrorism.
Yogi Adityanath has described "Operation Sindoor" as a symbol of India's self-respect, the honor of the women of India, and a guarantee of safety for future generations. He stated that while India does not interfere in others' matters unnecessarily, it will not hesitate to enter enemy hideouts if its internal security is threatened.
Ahilyabai Holkar, who ruled the Malwa region, is revered for her contributions to temple restoration, women empowerment, and her emphasis on good governance. Adityanath emphasized that the current government is committed to following her ideals and ensuring the welfare of the people of Uttar Pradesh.
