The investigation into the death of Raja Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya has taken a dark turn, with his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, emerging as the prime suspect in a meticulously planned murder. A seemingly innocuous phone call between Sonam and her mother-in-law, Uma Raghuvanshi, is now under scrutiny, offering potential clues into the tragic events that unfolded during what was supposed to be a romantic honeymoon.
According to reports, Uma Raghuvanshi contacted Sonam while she and Raja were purportedly trekking in Meghalaya's mountains. The conversation, at first glance, appeared to be a normal exchange between a caring mother and her daughter-in-law. However, the call's subtext reveals a web of deceit and suspicion. Uma inquired whether Raja's phone was working, indicating previous attempts to reach him. Sonam's response, "We are climbing. We will call once we reach," raised red flags, especially since Raja's phone had been switched off since May 23. It is not known whether Sonam followed through with her promise to call back.
The "honeymoon murder" plot, as it is being called, allegedly involved Sonam and her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, who authorities believe orchestrated Raja's death with the help of hired killers. The plan was to eliminate Raja in a remote location, making it difficult to trace the crime.
Adding another layer of complexity, Raja's brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, revealed that Sonam and Raj Kushwaha were in constant communication. Kushwaha was an employee of Sonam's, and their frequent phone calls raised suspicions. Furthermore, it has been reported that Sonam shared her live location with Kushwaha during the honeymoon, which aided the killers in tracking the couple across the Northeast.
The family of Raja Raghuvanshi is devastated and struggling to come to terms with the betrayal. His mother, Uma, recounted how Sonam had insisted on a honeymoon and taking all her jewelry. She also insisted on taking ₹9 lakhs from Raja to book hotels and tickets. She stated that Raja had mentioned that Sonam was not speaking to him after their engagement. Uma is heartbroken and questions why Sonam couldn't have simply left if she was unhappy, rather than resorting to murder.
The case continues to unfold, with Sonam's sudden request to visit the Kamakhya Temple in Assam now being investigated as a possible setup. The Meghalaya police are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to Raja's death and bring all those involved to justice. Meanwhile, Raja's family has called for a CBI probe, expressing dissatisfaction with the Meghalaya police's handling of the investigation and lack of communication. The family will not consider Sonam an accused until she confesses.
