Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated following a series of cross-border actions. On May 7-8, 2025, Pakistan reportedly launched drone and missile attacks targeting multiple military installations in Northern and Western India. According to Indian officials, these attacks were aimed at key locations including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj.

India has stated that its Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems successfully neutralized the incoming threats. Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, during a press briefing on Operation Sindoor, asserted that the Indian Armed Forces conducted retaliatory strikes on air defense radars and systems across Pakistan. According to reports, an air defense system in Lahore was neutralized.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) held a press conference where Col. Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh addressed the situation. Col. Qureshi stated that India's response was proportionate and targeted. The MEA emphasized that India's actions were a direct response to Pakistan's attempts to target military sites and were designed to be non-escalatory.

Intelligence sources indicate that precision strikes conducted by India eliminated over 100 terrorists early Wednesday. India has also accused Pakistan of increasing unprovoked firing across the Line of Control (LoC), resulting in civilian casualties. According to reports, 16 lives were lost, including women and children, due to Pakistani firing in areas such as Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri. India claims it was compelled to respond to halt the mortar and artillery fire from Pakistan.

The situation remains tense, with both sides accusing each other of initiating hostilities. India has maintained that its response is measured and focused, with no intention of escalating the situation, while reiterating its right to respond to cross-border terrorism. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that the choice of de-escalation now rests with Pakistan. The Indian Air Force reportedly deployed S-400 Sudarshan Chakra air defense missile systems overnight to counter incoming threats.
