Roster Reductions
The Canucks have reduced their training camp roster to 50 players. Nine players were affected in the first round of cuts. None of the cuts were unexpected, with the players either on amateur tryout contracts (ATO) or destined for the American Hockey League (AHL) or Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

With these cuts, Braeden Cootes is the only 2025 draft pick remaining on the roster and is expected to make his preseason debut against the Kraken.
Preseason Game vs. Kraken
The Canucks face the Seattle Kraken in their first preseason game on September 21 at Climate Pledge Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. PT. A young Canucks lineup is expected against the Kraken. The Canucks are bringing a lineup that features over a dozen players who played in the NHL last season.
The following players are expected to be in the Canucks' lineup against the Kraken: Braeden Cootes, Filip Chytil, Jonathan Lekkerimäki, Nils Höglander, Kiefer Sherwood, Drew O'Connor, Teddy Blueger, Nils Åman, Pierre-Olivier Joseph, Elias Pettersson, Tom Willander, and Victor Mancini.

More cuts are anticipated after the Kraken game as the Canucks approach their regular season opener on October 9. The Canucks will need to reach the 23-man roster limit by October 6.
