In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians on April 22, 2025, the Indian Navy swiftly deployed its forces in the Arabian Sea, effectively compelling the Pakistan Navy to remain confined to its harbors or operate very close to the coast. This strategic move was part of Operation Sindoor, India's coordinated military response to the terror attack.

Vice Admiral A.N. Pramod, Director General of Naval Operations, revealed that the Indian Navy's carrier battle groups, surface forces, submarines, and aviation assets were deployed with full combat readiness within 96 hours of the attack. The aim was to validate the readiness of crew, armaments, equipment, and platforms to deliver ordnance on selected targets precisely. Multiple weapon drills were conducted in the Arabian Sea to refine procedures and validate readiness.

The forward deployment of the Indian Navy compelled Pakistani naval and air units to remain in a defensive posture, mostly inside harbors or very close to the coast, which the Indian forces monitored continuously. The Indian Navy maintained seamless maritime domain awareness throughout the operation, remaining entirely aware of the locations and movement of Pakistani units. This overwhelming edge of the Navy contributed towards Pakistan's urgent requests for a ceasefire.

The Indian Navy was fully prepared to execute strikes on Pakistan's military infrastructure, with Karachi and other key Pakistani military assets within striking range. Naval forces were ready to target locations at sea and on land, including Karachi Port, but were awaiting government orders. Vice Admiral Pramod warned Pakistan against further provocation, underscoring the Navy's preparedness to strike both at sea and on land at a time of India's choosing.

The Indian response throughout the operation was measured and calibrated, with all branches of the military operating in sync to ensure an effective counter-strike. The application of force by the Navy was planned in a synchronized manner in coordination with the Army and Air Force. Air Marshal A.K. Bharti detailed the precision airstrikes that targeted Pakistani military installations, underlining India's commitment to avoiding civilian casualties while delivering a strategic response.

Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, Director General of Military Operations, reiterated that Pakistan had been warned against any further violations, which would be met with a strong and immediate response. The Indian Navy remains vigilant and ready to act against any future threats from Pakistan or its proxies.
