England's fast bowler Mark Wood has expressed optimism about potentially returning to play in the Test series against India this summer. The 35-year-old, who underwent knee surgery in March, initially expected to miss the entire five-match series. However, he has made significant progress in his recovery and is now aiming for a possible return in the final Test, scheduled to begin on July 31 at the Kia Oval.

Wood shared his progress on BBC's Test Match Special, stating that he has started bowling lightly and is officially on the "comeback trail." While acknowledging that anything before the last Test might be too soon, he remains focused on potentially playing a role in that final match.

His ability to bowl at speeds of up to 97mph makes him a valuable asset to the England team. If he can maintain his fitness, he is also likely to be a crucial part of England's plans to regain the Ashes in Australia later. Wood has taken 119 wickets in 37 Tests.
