Malayalam actress Swasika, known for her versatile performances in Malayalam and Tamil films, recently revealed a surprising casting offer that she received for the Telugu film 'Peddi'. The 33-year-old actress was approached to play the mother of Telugu superstar Ram Charan, who is 40 years old. This offer came as a shock to Swasika, who felt it wasn't the right time in her career to take on such a role.

Swasika, promoting her upcoming Malayalam film 'Vasanthi', which will be available on Manorama Max from August 28, 2025, shared her surprise at being offered mother roles repeatedly. However, the offer to play Ram Charan's mother in Buchi Babu Sana's 'Peddi' was the most shocking. The film also stars Janhvi Kapoor and Shivarajkumar, and is slated for a theatrical release on March 27, 2026, with music by A.R. Rahman.

In an interview with Global Malayalam, Swasika explained her decision to decline the role. "I keep getting mother roles these days. What shocked me was the offer to play Ram Charan's mother. It was for the big Telugu film 'Peddi', a massive-budget project. I was shocked and I said no," she stated. She acknowledged the magnitude of the offer but felt it wasn't the right fit for her career at this stage. "I don't know how it would have turned out if I had accepted, but right now, I don't feel the need to play Ram Charan's mother. If the need arises later, I'll think about it," she added.

The actress's decision has sparked conversations on social media, with many users supporting her choice. One user on X (formerly Twitter) pointed out the trend of casting young actresses as mothers to older actors, referencing Honey Rose's role in 'Veera Simha Reddy'. Another user suggested that Swasika could even play Ram Charan's pair, given her beauty and acting potential. However, some questioned why she accepted the role of Suriya's adoptive mother in 'Retro'.

Swasika's career has been marked by diverse roles in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu films. She gained recognition for her role in the Tamil film 'Lubber Pandhu' in 2024. Her upcoming projects include 'Vasanthi', 'Karuppu' with Suriya, and the Tamil film 'Bhoghee'. She has received several awards, including the Kerala State Film Award for Best Character Actress for her role in 'Vasanthi'.

This incident highlights the challenges and choices faced by actresses in the film industry. Swasika's decision to turn down the role reflects her careful consideration of her career path and her determination to take on roles that align with her aspirations. It also brings attention to the industry's casting practices and the types of roles offered to actresses of different ages.
