Veteran actor, director, and producer Mohanlal has been named the recipient of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2023. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on September 20, 2025, recognizing his unparalleled contribution to Indian cinema. The award will be presented at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony in New Delhi on September 23, 2025.
Mohanlal, a Malayalam superstar, has had a remarkable career spanning over four decades, during which he has acted in more than 400 films across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi languages. He began his film journey at an early age, and his work has inspired generations. He is known for his versatility and seamless transition between commercial blockbusters and critically acclaimed performances.
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India's highest recognition in cinema. It is presented annually by the Government of India to honor lifetime contributions to the growth and development of Indian cinema. The award is given on the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee.
