Anupam Kher's directorial venture, "Tanvi The Great," is set for a re-release in theaters on September 26, 2025, after its initial release on July 18. Kher, who believes strongly in second chances, is giving his film another opportunity to connect with audiences.
The film stars Shubhangi Dutt as Tanvi, a young woman with autism who is determined to fulfill her late father's dream of honoring the Indian flag at the Siachen Glacier, the world's highest battlefield. "Tanvi The Great" is a celebration of courage, inclusivity, and family, designed to appeal to a wide audience across generations. The film carries a patriotic message delivered with warmth, humor, and hope.
Kher expressed his belief in the importance of second chances, drawing from his own experiences. He recounted being replaced in his debut film "Saraansh" before fighting to get his role back. Kher said that in his life, things have improved when they happened a second time, motivating him to re-release "Tanvi The Great".
Upon its initial release, "Tanvi The Great" resonated with audiences and was screened for prominent figures, including the President of India, Smt. Draupadi Murmu, and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi. The film was also considered as a potential entry for India at the 98th Academy Awards. Despite the positive reception, the film didn't perform well at the box office, which Kher admitted was upsetting. However, he and his team organized screenings for schools and in different cities, receiving an amazing response.
Shubhangi Dutt shared her excitement about the film's re-release, describing it as a nostalgic and fulfilling experience. She recalled receiving praise from Robert De Niro for her performance, which she considers a significant compliment.
"Tanvi The Great" also features Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Karan Tacker, Arvind Swami, Nasser, and British actor Iain Glen. The film is produced by Anupam Kher Studios in collaboration with NFDC. It received international recognition during its festival run in Cannes, New York, London, and Houston, and earned standing ovations at previews at the National Defence Academy and the Southern Command in Pune.
Kher acknowledged the film's initial box office clash with "Saiyaara," which became a major success. He said that he was happy for the film’s success. Kher emphasized the importance of hope and perseverance, stating that one should not give up after facing disappointment. He views the re-release as an opportunity to reach a wider audience and believes the film's "recall value is interesting". "Tanvi The Great" will return to theaters in 17 to 20 cities, with plans to assess its performance after the first week.
