Aravind Srinivas, the 31-year-old co-founder and CEO of Perplexity AI, has been named India's youngest billionaire on the M3M Hurun India Rich List 2025. Srinivas's net worth is estimated at ₹21,190 crore, a fortune he built through his AI-powered search platform, Perplexity AI.
Born in Chennai on June 7, 1994, Srinivas demonstrated an early aptitude for science. He pursued dual degrees in Electrical Engineering at IIT Madras, where he also taught reinforcement learning. He then earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, specializing in computer vision, reinforcement learning, image generation, and video generation.
Before launching Perplexity AI, Srinivas gained valuable experience at leading AI labs, including OpenAI, Google, and DeepMind. His contributions included work on projects like DALL-E 2, HaloNet, and ResNet-RS.
In August 2022, Srinivas co-founded Perplexity AI with Denis Yarats, Johnny Ho, and Andy Konwinski. Perplexity AI is a conversational search engine that uses AI to provide users with quick, accurate, and reliable answers, positioning itself as a competitor to Google Gemini and OpenAI's ChatGPT. The platform has attracted investments from prominent figures like Jeff Bezos and has drawn acquisition interest from Apple and Meta. However, Srinivas has stated that the company will remain independent, with plans for an IPO after 2028.
The M3M Hurun India Rich List 2025 highlights Srinivas's rise as a symbol of India's economic transition towards a deep-tech, product-led powerhouse. His success reflects the growing influence of Indian talent in the world of deep technology. In addition to Perplexity AI, Srinivas has invested in other AI startups like ElevenLabs and Suno.
