'De De Pyaar De 2' trails 'Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat's' opening weekend box office collection by 16%.

Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh's latest romantic comedy, "De De Pyaar De 2," has had a decent run at the box office during its opening weekend, but it appears to have fallen short of expectations when compared to another recent release, "Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat," starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa. While "De De Pyaar De 2" managed to collect ₹34.75 crore in its first three days, it is approximately 16% less than the ₹44.48 crore earned by "Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat" during its opening weekend.

"De De Pyaar De 2", also starring R Madhavan, Jaaved Jaaferi, Meezan Jaaferi and Gautami Kapoor, hit theaters on Friday, November 14, 2025. The film made ₹8.75 crore on its opening day. However, the collections jumped by 40% on Saturday, reaching ₹12.25 crore. On Sunday, the movie saw further growth, earning ₹13.75 crore. The film had an overall 24.94% Hindi Occupancy on Sunday, November 16, 2025. Early estimates put the total opening weekend collection at ₹34.75 crore, with final numbers expected to be slightly higher once the collections from night shows are added.

Despite the lower numbers compared to "Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat," "De De Pyaar De 2" has shown promising growth over the weekend, indicating positive word-of-mouth. The sequel has performed better than Ajay Devgn's last release, "Son Of Sardaar 2," which collected ₹24.75 crore in its debut weekend. Furthermore, "De De Pyaar De 2" has already surpassed the opening weekend collections of several other romantic films released in 2025, including "Metro In Dino" (₹18.65 crore), "Dhadak 2" (₹11.97 crore), "Mere Husband Ki Biwi" (₹5.28 crore), and "Loveyapa" (₹4.75 crore).

In comparison, "Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat" is nearing the end of its successful theatrical run, having already grossed ₹76.15 crore in 27 days. The movie is expected to add a couple more crores in the coming weeks, potentially reaching a final collection of ₹77 crore to ₹78 crore. The film has been declared a 'Clean Hit' at the box office, considering its cast and budget. However, on its fourth Friday, the film's collections crashed by over 65% to collect just ₹17 lakh.

"De De Pyaar De 2" has performed better overseas, with an estimated USD 1.40 million, which is 15% better than the original film. The worldwide weekend collection for the sequel is approximately ₹1.50 crore more than the first "De De Pyaar De," despite lower domestic numbers. The original "De De Pyaar De" minted nearly ₹39 crore (including previews) in its first weekend in May 2019 and went on to gross ₹143 crore worldwide, with over ₹104 crore in India.

Looking ahead, it will be interesting to see how "De De Pyaar De 2" fares during the weekdays, especially with new releases like "Mastiii 4" and "120 Bahadur" set to hit theaters on November 21. For "De De Pyaar De 2" to be a hit, the hope will be for collections to remain above ₹5 crore net on Monday.
